1.   The past continuous shows an action that was started in the past time and still continuous.

Uses

3.   (a)  The past continuous is used to denote an action going on at some time in the past. The time of the action may or may not be indicated.

 

(b)  It is also used with persistent habits in the past.

Activity          Divide the students in groups of two each and give them a written exercise. Ask them to convert some sentences into past continuous tense.
